The family counseling service is a statutory activity according to the Social Services Act but is an independent unit without any authority and is therefore not included in the other activities conducted within social services. Family counseling is organizationally under the Social Administration's assistance unit, Children and Youth. Family counseling refers to activities aimed at facilitating the processing of cohabitation conflicts primarily in partnerships and families through therapy sessions.

In Gällivare municipality, we have a unit with all authority within the areas of social services. The assistance unit has a structure with two unit managers, one for the children and youth group and one for the adult group, and there is also a coordinator within each group. We also have an outpatient team that works on behalf of social workers through assistance decisions.

Your Responsibilities

As a Family Counselor, you meet individuals and couples who want help managing difficulties and conflicts – regardless of gender, culture, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability. The daily work is independent, and you have your own treatment responsibility. The primary task consists of conversations with couples or partners in relationships where crisis management, conflict resolution, and repairing relationships are common themes. Contact is initiated by the citizen, and the conversations are based on a therapeutic foundation. The work also includes collaboration with other colleagues within our organization as well as internal and external cooperation.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with an academic degree with at least a bachelor's degree in social work or an equivalent psychosocial or therapeutic knowledge field, as well as professional experience in therapy sessions with partners and/or families in difficult situations and crises. Relevant further education, such as basic psychotherapy training level 1, training in sexology and gender studies, and experience in independent treatment work is meritorious. Extra merit is if you have professional experience in family counseling.

Working Hours/Duration

Full-time, temporary position from 2026-02-02 to 2026-08-02, with possible extension.
